1. Balikawu, Npong. (2012, October 2). GMOs Safer than GSM Cell Phone. exploreB2B. http://www.fridayharborholistichealth.com/2011/03/gmos-cause-gluten-allergies-and-celiac-anxiety-auto-immune-and-neurological-diseases/
We are beginning to live in a world where everything is bad for us. This article discusses another issue of technology affecting human health and relating it to GMOs. It claims GSM cell phones are actually more dangerous than GMOs because of the waves they give off being linked to causing cancer. There is a variety of explanations discussed as to why GSMs are more dangerous than GMOs, but the underlying theme of the article is based of public reaction. People are incredibly worried about GMOs, but not expressing as much concern for health aspects for technologies like cell phones. Ultimately the article is not saying GMOs are risk free, it is asking if or how GMOs are more dangerous than anything else humans are exposed to in everyday life.
2. Benson, Norm. (May 11, 2014). Golden Rice now, Everything else is Noise. http://www.science20.com/timberati/blog/golden_rice_now_everything_else_is_noise-136084
This is an article that explains a bit more about the actual contents of the GM rice. It goes on to explain why the rice is able to have a source of vitamin A when regular rice does not. Though the presentation of some of the information was a bit harsh and almost attacking, this website was a great resource in understanding why Golden Rice works the way that it does and some of the other benefits it presents such as its ability to be replanted from saved harvests.
3. Braw, Elizabeth. (April 22, 2014). Genetically Engineered Mosquitos could be Vital Weapon Against Malaria. The Guardian. http://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/genetically-engineered-mosquitos-fight-malaria
After initially reading the ABC News article about mosquitos possibly being the answer to the Malaria crisis, I wanted more information. This article has more detail about the science behind the mosquitos. It explains how it is exactly that this could prevent further spread of the disease and it involves sterile mosquitos. The article gives further detail explaining how the release of the sterile mosquitos will prevent spread of disease, and then goes on to say that it doesn't stop here. The current method is a way to try to help limit the spread, but it may not be a long term solution. In the long run, there are experiments in the works of trying to GM mosquitos to have a virus that actually works like a vaccination against Malaria. Ultimately, this is just the tip of the iceberg and this article was really helpful and knowledgable about the mosquito project.
4. Chatsko, Maxx. (May 4, 2014). Are You as Anti-GMO as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Whole Foods Market Make you Believe? http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/05/04/you-arent-as-anti-gmo-as-chipotle-mexican-grill-an.aspx
This article is great because it is very objective. The whole article is open to both positives and negatives of GMOs taking over the food industry. Why I found this article particularly interesting was because it is making a stab at Chipotle Mexican Grill being GMO free although in an experiment done by our class discovered two kinds of GMOs in one of their tortillas. (More information about the experiment performed about GMOs can be found under the "GMO experiment" tab)
5. Cheng, Maria. Will Genetically Modified Mosquitos Stop Malaria's Spread? ABC News (London). http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=5211497&page=1
One of the main reasons I chose to use this article is because it is a news source. The reputation and understanding of GMOs to the public lies very much in the hands of the media. What the media portrays about such products has a big influence on how the general public views them. With there being so much bad publicity about GMOs in todays media, I found it really important to incorporate some good media attention. What is interesting to consider is that this is an article from London. It is ABC News, but from London where they have a much different outlook on GMOs than here in the United States.
6. Harding, Kristen. (2011, August 28). Is Your Immune System Confused? A Look at GMO Foods. http://www.healthyalterego.com/index.php/2011/08/is-your-immune-system-confused-a-look-at-gmo-foods/
After seeing a news source about GMOs causing and/or being contributing to the increase in food allergies, I wanted more information on the subject. This article gives more information as to what about GMOs is actually causing food allergy problems. Primarily it has to do with crossbreeding on a large scale. There is further explanation on how some of these products are modified such as soybeans and wheat, and why humans might be having a reaction to it. This ultimately goes on to become an article about labeling, but the beginning is very helpful in understanding more about food allergies and the relation to GMOs.
7. Lupkin, Sydney. (2014, April 24). The Health Effects of GMO Foods. ABC News. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/health-effects-gmo-foods/story?id=23459884
This article primarily touches on risks of GMOs and relation to food allergies. This is mostly targeted at being a pro-labeling article, but I found the section about how it is affecting food allergies very useful in understanding medical risks involved. Though I am not focusing on whether GMOs should be labeled or not, it is very important to look at from a medical aspect. Crossing genes of different food clearly changes the composition of these products. While a person may have never had an allergic reaction to a food before, after is it modified by a new gene that person may have allergic reactions. This can be medically dangerous if people consume foods being unaware it has been modified by something they are allergic to because they may be then allergic to the food that has been modified.
8. Mayer, Jorge. Golden Rice Humanitarian Board. Golden Rice Project. http://www.goldenrice.org/Content2-How/how1_sci.php
This website is great to get more information about the Golden Rice Project from the inside. The site does a great job at covering all the bases. There is a list of things it may effect and how so including everything from the people eating it to the environment. Certification and science background is shown. One draw back of this site, though, is it is a purely pro-Golden Rice website. has great information about the benefits, but lacks some perspective from the other side.

This is a video interview of Dr. Vincent Bellonzi with correspondent, Corrina Rachels, about health effects of GMOs. Dr. Bellonzi covers many topics about medical factors related to GMOs including digestive concerns, toxicity concerns, allergies, and a variety of other topics. This is not solely an anti-GMO video as Dr. Bellonzi does discuss some of the benefits these products are being used for, but he is sure to caution people of the concerns they should have. He discusses how Roundup ready products should be looked at more carefully seeing as insects dies from eating the products, what does that do to humans? He discusses if humans should be eating items that are toxic to other organisms and how those toxins can affects human systems. Dr. Bellonzi express a number of things to consider in the GMO health debate that should not be over looked.

Though there are tons of claims that GMOs cause diseases and other medical issues, I wanted more info. This article discusses a couple diseases being looked at for having been caused by GMOs. Gluten disorders, autoimmune, and neurological disorders are looked at. What is nice is there is more information about why this link is being made for each, looking at different proteins. Though this is a very anti-GMO article, it gives some insight as to where the link between GMOs and disease is coming form, and it allows some understanding.

http://theprogressivecontrarian.com/2013/03/19/the-dark-side-of-the-anti-gmo-movement/
This article is a real stand out with all the anti-GMO campaigning going on. With all the commotion about GMOs causing medical problems and all sorts of other things, it can easily be forgotten they were not created to harm anything. In fact, just the opposite is true. The entire point of doing the research of GMOs is to help solve already existing problems in the world like starvation and malnutrition. This article gives a good look at how GMOs are meant to build the world up not tear it down. Also, it provides a great visual representation of how denying GM food is denying starving people food.
12. (October 14, 2013). Three Companies using GMOs in Baby Formula. http://www.liebenfels.com/3-companies-using-gmos-in-baby-formula/
This had an excellent visual toward parents, and anyone really, about being cautious what we are feeding our children. Just because there is not sufficient evidence that GMO products cause harm doesn't mean they are safe. By not regulating GMOs, a generational experiment is being put in place and those consuming GMOs are unknowingly the lab rats.
We are beginning to live in a world where everything is bad for us. This article discusses another issue of technology affecting human health and relating it to GMOs.
